I recommend that you build your own list and not buy them from others. If you build your own list, people will know who you are. They met you through your site or blog and they signed up to hear from you. If you buy a list from someone, they don't know who you are.

This is very important. You want people on the list to trust you. Think about it. If I bought your email address and added you to my list, you will be wondering who I am and where I got your email address from. You may mark me as spam or remove yourself from my list. I do this all the time when I get emails from people I have no clue who they are and how I got on their list.
